NDSU ENGL 320 BLOG 7 By Thane Kruk     Over the last several months of the English 320 course at NDSU we have been assigned to create and upload multiple blog postings using various blog sites. These blog assignments have covered a variety of topics, some of which we have gotten to choose as students and others that have been encouraged by the professor. These assignments were typically assigned bi-weekly with other various assignments in between.     This will be my 7th and final blog post for the course and I couldn't be more thrilled about it. Although I think it has been beneficial to complete these assignment I have viewed it more as busy-work due to the smaller scale of the assignments. I believe the larger scale projects have served a much more beneficial advantage to creating reports that would be used in the work place as compared to these shorter blog assignments or even the persual assignments.      However, these smaller assignments ...

NDSU ENGL 320 Blog 6 By Thane Kruk      For this weeks blog entry, I have decided to discuss one of the course objectives from the course syllabus. I think all of the course objectives in the syllabus are very beneficial skills and concepts to learn and understand. The four main course objectives included topics like effective communication skills, how to better integrate knowledge, how to manage multiple kinds of projects, and developing professionalism. Although all of these objectives have their own benefits and are all important, there is one specific objective that I believe is the most important of all in this list.     The Course Objective that I believe is most important to be good at is, "Communicate effectively in a variety of contexts and genres, using variety of communications skills. To achieve this outcome, you will practice writing most found in business and professional writing settings. Common writing includes memos, proposals, instructional wri...

NDSU ENGL 320 Blog 5 Thane Kruk       I have lived in Fargo my entire life. It is the only placed I have ever lived also meaning its the only place I know really well. That being said, this blog will be slightly different from my previous blogs, as this blog will be more of an insider's guide to the fun things to do around Fargo.     Fargo is blessed with being able to have all 4 seasons of the year. We have harsh cold and snowy winters, rainy springs, hot summers, and cool dry falls. One could argue that Fargo has the best seasonal weather variety because you get a little taste of everything. Personally I wish winter only last around 2 months instead of 6 months, but I feel like thats a small price to pay.      My absolute favorite thing about the Fargo area is summer. Summer in Fargo is about as perfect as it gets in my opinion. It's sunny, the weather stays between about 70 and 90 degrees. This is perfect for spending time outside and enjo...

NDSU ENGL 320 Blog 4 By Thane Kruk     For this blog post we were challenged to "live in the moment" by taking some time to sit quietly for as long as we could with zero distractions. The purpose of this challenge was to try and slow down daily life for a little bit and appreciate it as is. I think this is a good exercise for anyone to try, especially if you ever reach a point in your day where you feel overwhelmed or stressed out.     I completely agree that people tend to not live in the moment and instead try to live in the future. I too am guilty of this as I am always trying to check the next task off my bucket list or come up with a new idea for work. Although you may think that always thinking and working towards something is the only way to achieve it, you may be wrong. Sometimes all you need is to sit down take a deep breathe and try to focus on absolutely nothing. If you clear your mind of all stressors and other thoughts, it can actually allow you to think...

Being a clear communicator is essential in then work place, especially in a team oriented setting. This allows for easier collaboration between coworkers, which is crucial to successfully completing tasks by their deadlines in the work place.     Being able to effectively communicate in various ways in the workplace is very important to employee success.  Some of these ways may include different things like writing memos, proposals, and instructions.  Online College Courses     In my college career I have taken a pretty sizable number of online classes, in fact I would go as far as saying about 80-90% of my business classes for my Business Administration Minor have been taken online. Unfortunately NDSU doesn't offer their construction management program online or I would be taking some of those online as well. I took my first online class freshman year as a test run to see if it was a good fit for me and I loved it. One specific class I took online was the principles of real estate. Or in this case it was technically called BUSN 347 at NDSU.      As someone who deals with real estate daily as their profession, this class was super enjoyable and insightful. Although I had already known a good amount of the basics I still learned a great deal from the class. I really did like the format of the class and that there was a weekly checklist of tasks and assignments to do. This made the course easily manageabl...

NDSU 320 Blog 1

Self Introduction Blog By Thane Kruk     Hi, my name is Thane Kruk and I am a student at NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota. I am currently studying construction management and am on pace to graduate in the fall of 2025. So far I am enjoying the construction program at NDSU and felt that I have learned quite a bit about the industry. I am very excited to graduate and begin a full time career in the industry.      However, I was not always a construction management major. When I was a freshman I started college as a business administration major. I chose this path originally because I have always enjoyed learning about business but I also was not sure what I wanted to study in college. After completing my freshman year in the business school I decided to explore the construction management program as I had spent the previous few years working on the labor side of the construction industry.      Aside from having to take a few more generals, the tra...
