Self Introduction Blog

    Hi, my name is Thane Kruk and I am a student at NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota. I am currently studying construction management and am on pace to graduate in the fall of 2025. So far I am enjoying the construction program at NDSU and felt that I have learned quite a bit about the industry. I am very excited to graduate and begin a full time career in the industry.

    However, I was not always a construction management major. When I was a freshman I started college as a business administration major. I chose this path originally because I have always enjoyed learning about business but I also was not sure what I wanted to study in college. After completing my freshman year in the business school I decided to explore the construction management program as I had spent the previous few years working on the labor side of the construction industry.

    Aside from having to take a few more generals, the transition from the business program to the construction program was not too bad. As a bonus, the construction program requires a business administration minor. This made it feel like it was a great move for me and I was getting the best of both worlds in the education I wanted as I have interests in both construction and business. 

    In addition to being in the construction program at NDSU and having a part time job as a construction crew supervisor, I also run a house flipping business on the side. This however feels more like a hobby to me then a side job as it allows me to work whenever I am available. In addition to the flexibility of being able to set my own hours with that job, I also love that I get to handle the business and construction operations which gives quite a rewarding feeling when projects are completed.

    When I am not working, studying, and doing homework, I enjoy spending time with friends, traveling, and hanging out with my 6 month old golden retriever named Bailey. Although I do live a pretty busy and choatic life, I do think it has really benefited me in my time management skills as I have to be effective and efficient with my time. I believe that this prepares me to be successful in this class and learn more of the key aspects and importance of good quality communication.

NDSU ENGL 320 Blog 4 By Thane Kruk     For this blog post we were challenged to "live in the moment" by taking some time to sit quietly for as long as we could with zero distractions. The purpose of this challenge was to try and slow down daily life for a little bit and appreciate it as is. I think this is a good exercise for anyone to try, especially if you ever reach a point in your day where you feel overwhelmed or stressed out.     I completely agree that people tend to not live in the moment and instead try to live in the future. I too am guilty of this as I am always trying to check the next task off my bucket list or come up with a new idea for work. Although you may think that always thinking and working towards something is the only way to achieve it, you may be wrong. NDSU ENGL 320 BLOG 2

 Online College Courses     In my college career I have taken a pretty sizable number of online classes, in fact I would go as far as saying about 80-90% of my business classes for my Business Administration Minor have been taken online. Unfortunately NDSU doesn't offer their construction management program online or I would be taking some of those online as well. I took my first online class freshman year as a test run to see if it was a good fit for me and I loved it. One specific class I took online was the principles of real estate. Or in this case it was technically called BUSN 347 at NDSU.      As someone who deals with real estate daily as their profession, this class was super enjoyable and insightful. Although I had already known a good amount of the basics I still learned a great deal from the class.
