NDSU ENGL 320 Blog 6

For this weeks blog entry, I have decided to discuss one of the course objectives from the course syllabus. I think all of the course objectives in the syllabus are very beneficial skills and concepts to learn and understand. The four main course objectives included topics like effective communication skills, how to better integrate knowledge, how to manage multiple kinds of projects, and developing professionalism. Although all of these objectives have their own benefits and are all important, there is one specific objective that I believe is the most important of all in this list.

The Course Objective that I believe is most important to be good at is, "Communicate effectively in a variety of contexts and genres, using variety of communications skills. To achieve this outcome, you will practice writing most found in business and professional writing settings. Common writing includes memos, proposals, instructional writing, and resume/cover letters, among others.

There are a number of reason why I think this is the most important course objective. First off, communication is the key to anything running smoothly and efficiently. By being an effective communicator, it allows for far less confusion in both professional and personal settings. Being an effective communicator and knowing how to get your point across without rambling on or getting side tracked is very important as too much writing about nothing can lead to confusion and even misinterpretation.

The way I interpret this objective is that it is very important to be able to communicate using a wide variety of communication methods. By having a wide variety of communication skills, it allows one to be adaptable to various communication platforms and be able to effectively communicate thoughts, plans, and ideas. Without being adaptable, there would be a lack of clear communication, and whether that is in the workplace or even in your social life, lack of clear communication would make everyones life much more difficult to complete everyday tasks. The more effective of a communicator one is, the easier it will be for them to stay on top of their own tasks as well as making sure they're able to coordinate that much better with others.

In order to feel like one has met this goal would in my opinion be that you are able to successfully and efficiently navigate throughout different communication platforms with minimal to no errors. This includes both knowing how to create these things on the different types of communication platforms, as well as know how to access, read, interpret, and respond using those platforms. Being able to effectively use many communication platforms can also have benefits like boosting ones confidence and they are able to get a clearer picture of what is expected or required of them. Overall, every single one of the course objectives is important but I truly believe being a clear and effective communicator is by far the most important of them.
